The Quick CK Rule Checker!
1
Does the word end in a /k/ sound?
2
Is there a short vowel right before it — A, E, I, O, U?
3
YES → use CK — like duck, back, sick!
4
NO → use K alone — like milk, dark,usk!
π―
The Challenge — Read this silly sentence!
"The duck sat on a rock and kicked a big pack into the lock!"
A very cheeky duck climbed onto a rock, gave a mighty kick to a backpack, and sent it flying straight into a lock! Can you spot every CK word in the sentence? There are five! π
⚠️ Rule Breaker Watch!
⚠️ Not every K ending uses CK!
Words like milk, silk, bulk, dark, bark end in /k/ but do NOT use CK — because there is a consonant before the K, not a short vowel! The rule is strictly short vowel + CK only. If there is anything else before the K — just use K alone! πͺ
