The CK Ending! πŸ¦†

Why is it duck and not duk? Why back and not bak? The CK rule explains it all!

🀫
The Rule
Use CK at the end of a word when there is a short vowel right before the /k/ sound — like duck, back, sick, lock, luck. If the vowel is long or there is another consonant before it — just use K alone!
πŸ‘† Tap each vowel to hear its SHORT sound!
A /a/ — ant
E /e/ — egg
I /i/ — itch
O /o/ — odd
U /u/ — up
πŸ‘† Tap any word to hear it!
A short A + CK
back
rack
pack
jack
E short E + CK
neck
deck
peck
beck
I short I + CK
sick
kick
pick
tick
O short O + CK
lock
dock
rock
sock
U short U + CK
duck
luck
tuck
buck

The Quick CK Rule Checker!
1
Does the word end in a /k/ sound?
2
Is there a short vowel right before it — A, E, I, O, U?
3
YES → use CK — like duck, back, sick!
4
NO → use K alone — like milk, dark,usk!
🎯
The Challenge — Read this silly sentence!
"The duck sat on a rock and kicked a big pack into the lock!"
A very cheeky duck climbed onto a rock, gave a mighty kick to a backpack, and sent it flying straight into a lock! Can you spot every CK word in the sentence? There are five! πŸ˜„
⚠️ Not every K ending uses CK!
Words like milk, silk, bulk, dark, bark end in /k/ but do NOT use CK — because there is a consonant before the K, not a short vowel! The rule is strictly short vowel + CK only. If there is anything else before the K — just use K alone! πŸ’ͺ
